A 49-year-old engineering workshop owner from Vastral lost Rs 6.8 lakh to cyberfraudsters who threatened to disconnect his piped gas connection over an alleged unpaid bill and tricked him into downloading a malicious mobile application. He received a WhatsApp message on Oct 9 from an unknown number warning that his gas connection would be disconnected due to a pending bill.
