Michigan will ban untreated, uncertified firewood from entering the state on January 1, 2027, aiming to curb the spread of more than 140 plant pests and diseases. The rule applies to travelers, campers and businesses, with exceptions for certified heat-treated wood and certain other wood products. Repeat violations can bring fines from 2028.
