Around 50–60 anti-SIR protesters were detained near the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Bengaluru on October 12, 2026, while attempting to stage a demonstration against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Organised by the My Vote My Right coalition, the protest demanded that the SIR exercise be scrapped and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign. Several women protesters alleged that police personnel used excessive force, pulled them by their hair and manhandled them during the detentions. Police took the detained protesters to the Vidhana Soudha police station. The protesters argue that irregularities in the electoral roll revision could lead to the disenfranchisement of eligible voters. These allegations and concerns remain at the centre of the ongoing debate over the SIR process.
