Chennai Metro Rail opened the first 14.64km stretch of Phase 2 from Vadapalani to Poonamallee Bypass on Sunday evening. Hours earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay flagged off the first driverless train at Porur Bypass station and rode to Poonamallee Bypass and back.
