Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid the foundation stones for development projects in Chennai on October 11, 2026. The projects span metro rail, highways, railways, ports and petroleum infrastructure. A key highlight was the inauguration of the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch of Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail project, built at a cost of around ₹4,900 crore. The programme also covered road upgrades, railway infrastructure, port modernisation and a lube oil base stocks project at the Manali refinery.
